Pokemon Go

Pokémon
Now the summer is upon us and the sun has actually come out you may have noticed your child has a sudden rush of excitement to head outdoors. Quite possibly they have not just decided fresh air is good for them, think the dog needs a walk or they need a break from the screen but instead are heading off to play the new game - Pokemon Go. Visit the NSPCC or UK Safer Internet to keep yourself informed about this latest craze and ensure your child stays safe this summer.

Year 4 visit Warwick Castle

On Wednesday, 13th July, Nightingales and Kingfishers spent the day at Warwick Castle to complete their topics on the Normans and the Plantagenets.  During the day, we enjoyed watching a display of different eagles and other birds of prey in flight (one nearly flew onto Mrs Martin's head as she was taking a photo!) and a demonstration of an expert archer who explained the important role bowmen played in the battles of that time.  We also had a good look inside the castle and finished our day in the Horrible Histories Maze, which was great fun.  Fortunately, it only rained once and we had a brilliant day.

Grass track cycling county final

On Tuesday the 5th July, my teammates - Toby, India, Isaac, Jacob, Evie and and I took part in a grass track cycling event  at St Mary’s school. We had been to a cycling competition previously and had managed to make it to the county finals - something we really weren’t expecting! We arrived, full of energy and ready to try our very best.

Throughout the day we worked well as a team, encouraging each other to get to the finish line; we supported one another in every race. We came 4th out of the whole of the county - an amazing achievement considering one of our best riders couldn’t make it! Our team effort and success on the day led to a really fun time and a cracking result that we are all very proud of! by Molly H

American Sports

On Monday 4th July the Chaffinsh class had a great morning at the American Sports Festival at Mackworth Sports Centre. They enjoyed a range of sports including: basketball, American football, ultimate frisbee and baseball.

Year 6 at PGL

On Friday the 1st of July, a group of just over 40 excited Year 6’s embarked on what promised to be a weekend full of fun and friendship at PGL. On our way, we explored the Victorian town of Blists Hill in Ironbridge- where the children were allowed to spend their farthings and shillings on: freshly baked bread and biscuits, Victorian sweets and handcrafted candles. The afternoon flew by, and it was onwards to PGL!
We were greeted by Frodo (our leader for the weekend) who showed us to our log cabins and gave us a tour of the beautiful site. After a good night’s sleep, Saturday and Sunday were jam-packed with lots of exciting activities! Some of the highlights included- working in teams to build rafts to race on the lake, flying high over the site on the zip wire and giant swing, climbing up into the trees on the Jacob’s ladder and trapeze, as well as target practice during archery and rifle shooting. (That’s not even mentioning the quad-biking and evening activities.)
We were kept well-fed throughout the weekend with plenty of exciting options, as well as a fairly extensive supply of sweet treats from the tuck shop! The children behaved incredibly well and it was a pleasure to see them supporting one another, laughing and making memories together over the weekend!

Well done Year 6, you did Silverhill proud! Although it may take a little while for us all to catch up on our sleep! Mr Brassington

Safety week

Image result for e safety

This week Silverhill pupils focused on all things safe. From staying safe in the sun, on the roads or by water, stranger danger and especially e-safety. Through various assemblies, lessons, activities and projects children were reminded about how to keep them self safe online. We hope that the children shared their lessons at home and that the information sent home encourages an open dialogue about these important issues. If you have any questions or concerns regarding e-safety please contact the school e-safety or safeguarding staff.

Murder Mystery Science

This week in year 6, the pupils have all become super sleuth forensic scientists trying to solve a murder mystery. Investigating soil, fabric, stains and white powder, day by day the children began to eliminate the suspects! Thank you to John Port Science department for providing all the resources.
