Authors visits

In conjunction with World Book Day, on Wednesday 3rd March Silverhill welcomed 2 wonderful children's authors to read, talk and inspire our pupils. Linda Chapman, author of Mr Monkey, spent the morning with our Key Stage 1 pupils while Andy Cope, author of Spy Dog, spent the afternoon with our Key Stage 2 pupils. Both authors share stories of being an author, giving out prizes and signing books. Such an inspiration for our budding readers and writers!

Reception in Space!

On Thursday 24th February, an astronomer visited Robins and Wrens and told us all about, planets, Tim Peake, space rockets and astronaut training.

We also used proper telescopes. Lots of Robins & Wrens would now like a career as an astronaut!

Year 4 at Lea Green

From February 24th-26th , the majority of the children in Year 4 spent their residential visit at Lea Green Learning and Development Centre.  We had a brilliant time, if a little cold, and took part in new and exciting activities.  We were busy from morning until night and, fortunately, the food was delicious and the beds were comfy!  We learnt new skills, challenged ourselves and everybody agreed that it had been a fantastic time and an exhilarating adventure! Visit us on twitter to see more photographs from our adventure!

Happy retirement Mr Smith

On the last day of term we said a fond farewell to our long standing (and long suffering) caretaker Mr Smith! On his final day Mr Smith enjoyed bacon butties before school, an assembly with the pupils where he was presented with some lovely new tools and then tea and cakes after school, It certainly was a lovely send off! Enjoy your retirement Mr Smith!

Sportshall Athletics for Year 6

On Thursday 11th February all our Year 6 took part in the Derby City SSP inter-schools sportshall athletics competition at the new Derby University sportshall. Every pupil took part in a range of track and field events, including relay, triple jump, hurdles and javelin. Well done to all the children for their fantastic SPORTS attitudes.

Fundamentals in Year 2

Kestrels in year 2 attended the PE Fundamentals event on Tuesday 9th February at the University of Derby.  We had great fun taking part in all the activities, which included; gymnastics, football, volley ball, yoga and cycling.  We were told that we should be extremely proud of being the best school at cycling, as 80% of our children could cycle.
