Year 5 visit Harry Potter Studios

On the early hours of Thursday the 6th November, 60 children and 13 teachers arrived at school before the sun had risen, ready and raring to go on our trip to Warner Brothers Studios in London. The day was filled with excitement, fun, learning and lots and lots of road works, and is most definitely a trip we will all remember for many years to come!

'The best part about either day was when Katie and Emily pushed open these huge, oak doors to reveal the Great Hall set behind! It was the actual set that was used in the movies. Amazing!'

'In the first section we got to go around all the sets and see all the tricks in filming. For example, the really long hallways are made by an awesome camera trick called 'Forced Perspective'. My favourite set however was Dumbledore's Office, as there was so many different things to look at.'

'I absolutely loved Diagon Alley. We got to stand outside our favourite shops and look through the windows to see all the props and sets. We could even see where the wand shop was set on fire by the special effects people!'

'My most memorable moment was when we got to ride the broomstick and car through the London streets.... It was magic. (Not really - we were just learning how a green screen worked!)'

'We actually got to walk up to the door of the houses on Privet Drive and knock on them. Did you know they are only half built? I had never realised till we saw them!'

'The most amazing part of the day was seeing the Hogwarts Castle... It was enormous even though it was only a model... When they filmed the scenes they moved the camera around over the top to make it look full sized. In the winter they even sprinkle snow on with a sieve for that wintery feel. I was amazed when I saw it.'

All of the children were impeccably behaved and excellent representatives of a Silverhill primary school. Well done Year 5!
