On Tuesday 27th February some of our Year 3 pupils took part in a cheerleading festival at the Derby Velodrome...
First we did a warm up. We ran around the room while Alana shouted some numbers; one meant jump, two meant touch the floor and three was change direction. Afterwards, she taught us a routine. there were a lot of moves and half way through we showed the other half of the room what we'd done so far. There was quite a lot of clapping and jumping in the routine. The song we dances to was called 'Cheerleader'.
After Alana taught us the whole routine Charlie helped us make up our own routine to show the other schools. Seren did lots of cool tricks whilst we were in the background cheerleading. We also got put in three groups so we could take it in turns to do different moves. We did two toe-touch jumps and one pike jump. They were a little bit hard but we managed to do them int he end. We kept on rehearsing until we remembered the routine. During the rehearsal bikers were cycling around the Olympic practice track. After a few more minutes, Alana told us to stop and everyone got chance to perform their dance. One school got to lift people in the air! Most schools used pompoms but we didn't want to. At the end of our dance we went into an ending position, row one were kneeling down, row two were kneeling up and row three were standing but Seren was doing the splits at the front. Once we had finished Alana let us play a game of musical bumps and statues.
It was really fun! When the festival ended, our teachers were given our certificates and we had a safe journey home!
