On the last day of term we said a fond farewell to our long standing (and long suffering) caretaker Mr Smith! On his final day Mr Smith enjoyed bacon butties before school, an assembly with the pupils where he was presented with some lovely new tools and then tea and cakes after school, It certainly was a lovely send off! Enjoy your retirement Mr Smith!

SID16
Today Silverhill Primary proudly supports Safer Internet Day 2016 and are playing our part for a better internet.
Through a whole school assembly, activities in class and a letter home to parents and careers, we have supported the global campaign to raise awareness of internet safety and to help make the internet a better place.
We made our #shareaheart pledge and promise that we are the same people on-line as we are off-line. Respect everyone, support others and be kind.
Fundamentals in Year 2
Kestrels in year 2 attended the PE Fundamentals event on Tuesday 9th February at the University of Derby. We had great fun taking part in all the activities, which included; gymnastics, football, volley ball, yoga and cycling. We were told that we should be extremely proud of being the best school at cycling, as 80% of our children could cycle.

Year 1 visit All Saints Church
The Year 1 children had a wonderful time visiting ALL Saints church on Tuesday morning. We loved looking at the different features of christian churches including the font, lectern and pulpit. The children asked some really interesting questions and we were even lucky enough to hear the organ being played! Many thanks to all our parent helpers for coming with us!
Year 3 gymnastics competition
On the 22nd January we saw some fantastic achievements for our Year 3 gymnasts. Both teams performed brilliantly with Silverhill Team A winning gold putting them through to the county finals in March and an individual silver for Maisie. Well done to everyone who took part.
Cosmic classroom
On 2nd February, Silverhill joined
with half a million children across Britain to take part in the Cosmic
Classroom. A live link was made with Tim Peake, the British astronaut
currently aboard the International Space Station. The children watched a question
and answer session and we were both amazed and amused by the facts Tim shared.
Year 5/6 football tournament
A fantastic well done to our Year 5 and 6 football team for playing so well in the Derby SSP and Derby County Community Trust indoor football tournament at Soccerdome. The first game saw Max score a hattrick in a 3-3 result in our 'local derby' against Mickleover. Despite a disappoiting few games against Walter Evans and Cherry Tree the boys kept their head high and came back with a final 9-0 win over Becket! Well done boys - great sports attitude!
