Rolls Royce visit
Many thanks to the staff from Rolls Royce who visited our Year 6 on Friday to carry out some experiments into green renewable energy. Equipped with torches and fans the girls investigated wind and solar power to support their current topic of 'Keen to be Green'
Tag Rugby Festival
Congratulations
to Niamh, Amy, Millie, Sian, Danny, Dan, Hannah, Jake, Alistair and Michael who
did us proud in the Tag rugby festival on
21st March at Chellaston Academy. Unfortunately they didn't make the county
finals but the team played 3 fantastic games. The children were a credit to the
school with their superb behaviour and sportsman ship. Special congratulations
to Danny who was the top Try scorer and many thanks to Tom Gerrard and Mrs

Planet Calculus
On Friday the 15th March two
members from the Quantum theatre came into school to perform ‘Return To Planet
Calculus!’ The show, based on the mathematics
curriculum for Primary Schools, explored a variety of methods of mental
calculation through handling and manipulating data, looking at probability
scales and the mean, the mode and the median.
In Key Stage 1 the show explored the number system, number operations and the relationships between them, mental methods for simple calculation, and processing, representing and interpreting simple data.
Key Stage 2 covered the same topics but in more detail and used various methods for more complex calculations and drew conclusions from statistics and graphs.

The children agreed that the performance was:
enjoyable
exiting
very informative
amazing!!!
We asked
some children to tell us how much they liked it, Grace P, (year 6), thought
“the show was very educational and I enjoyed it very much”.
Niamh L
(year 5) felt “they were amazing actresses and I loved the performance!”
Thank you to
all parents who paid for the children to watch.

Sculpting Year 4
Year 4 had a very exciting week last week as part of our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle topic. On Monday, we were lucky enough to have a visit
from Teresa Well, a professional sculptor. She showed us examples of her work,
some of which she makes from recycled or reused items. She talked us through
the process of creating sculptures and then we designed and made our own models
and sculptures from household items which would have been recycled.
On Friday, we participated in a run by Eco Day the Youth
Hostel Association (YHA).We were outside (in the cold!) nearly all day long,
learning about coastal erosion, the water cycle, water conservation and team
building activities. We even got to let off a rocket or two! We had a great
week ‘learning by doing’ and our visitors have really enhanced our topic work.
