Supporting Earth Hour

It’s the young people in our schools today who will live through the worst – or best – effects of the action we take now on climate change. And today’s students will be tomorrow’s citizens and decision-makers: we need to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to make wise choices about the future of our planet. At Silverhill we actively encourage children and parents to engage with environmental issues. This week the children have been learning about how to save energy, the need to conserve resources and why we need to expand the use of renewable energy. As part of the Global Initiative Earth Hour, we would invite you to participate by turning all the lights off for an hour on Saturday at 20:30.

Sport Relief 2010

On Friday 19th March Silverhill pupils and staff supported Sport Relief. For a £1 donation children came to school dressed in their sports clothes and some of the teachers dressed in the Silverhill netball kit started the day with a very special Take 10! Thank you to everyone for their kind donations with raised a super £360 for a great charity.

Year 2 visit the Gurdwara

On Wednesday 17th March our Year 2 pupils went to visit the Sikh Gurdwara Derby. To support the RE curriculum children observed first hand many Sikh traditions including prayer, the 5 K's and Langer when the children sampled some wonderful traditional food.

Mad Science

During National Science Week all our pupils had hands on experience of some 'Mad Science'. From making slime and bubbles to electricity children took a step back in time to trace the history of science, linking important science concepts to influential scientists including Aristotle, Newton and Galileo.

Super Rose....

On 14th February Rose came first in the Derbyshire County tumbling competition, at level national one. On 27th February Rose came first in the regional tumbling competition, at level national one. She now goes onto the national finals during May in Stoke. Well done to Rose for a fantastic achievement so far and we wish you all the best for that national finals. Watch this space in May to find out how Rose gets on!

100% attendance

On our ‘Hats for Haiti’ day we said congratulations to our pupils who have achieved 100% attendance. Well done to Grace, Matthew, Jack, Ella, Naomi, Michael, Emily, Hannah, Sam, Alex, Mitchell, Alistair and Daniel who all received their 100% attendance for the last academic year. Special mention went to Tom, Max and Molly who have achieved 2 years 100% attendance and a very special well done to Chloe who has now attended school very day for the last 3 years! Well done to you all.

Hats for Haiti

On Friday 29th January pupils and staff wore their 'Hats for Haiti'. With the money from the Table Top sale and donations of 50p to wear a hat, the total raised is £800. We will also be donating the proceeds from the Textile Recycling on Wednesday, 3rd February to the Help for Haiti fund. If you would like to make any further cash donations please send them to the school office so that they can be included in the total which will be forwarded after the textile collection.
